Dr. Md. Bahauddin Malik obtained M.B.B.S. from Dhaka Medical College in
1973. He then completed his primary training in ophthalmology from the
Institute of Post Graduate Medicine & Research (IPGM&R), Dhaka.
He joined Khulna BNSB Eye Hospital in 1976 as Surgeon & In-charge
where he had enormous opportunity to work for the community people
particularly through blindness prevention program.
In 1979 he obtained his D.O.M.S. from the University of Vienna, Austria
holding scholarship from the Royal Commonwealth Society for the Blind,
U.K. Later, in April 1986 he was promoted to Sr. Consultant cum Director
of the hospital who continued as such till January 12, 2017. During his
40 years stay with Khulna BNSB Eye Hospital he contributed with utmost
dedication for its growth, development and very specially for the
benefits of patients by way of High Quality Service Delivery, side by
side established Training program for Ophthalmic human recourses
development and finally could reach such standard, the hospital received
recognition from the Bangladesh College of Physicians & Surgeons
(BCPS) and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).
He is a well known cataract surgeon who performed more than 50,000
surgeries through various procedures such as ICCE, ECCE, SICS and PHACO
during his tenure. He received hands-on-training on SICS from GM Eye
Hospital, Mettupalayam, Coimbatore, India in 1999 and PHACO surgeries
from NIO, Dhaka in 2005.
In addition to national, he attended International conferences held at
New Delhi, Nairobi and Dubai in 1986, 1990 and 2004 respectively and
various Regional conferences in India, Singapore and Thailand. He is a
life member of American Medical Society of Vienna, All India
Ophthalmological Society, Ophthalmological Society of Bangladesh,
Bangladesh Community Ophthalmological Society and Bangladesh Medical
Association.
Dr. Malik was awarded for ‘Outstanding Community Eye Care Service
Delivery in Bangladesh’ in 2014 by Bangladesh Community Ophthalmological
Society (BCOS), ‘ACOIN Award’ by the Association of Community
Ophthalmologists of India (ACOIN) for his selfless contribution for
prevention of blindness in Indo-Bangla Sub-continent in 2015 at Lucknow,
India and ‘Life Time Achievement Award’ in 2016 by Ophthalmological
Society of Bangladesh (OSB).
