General Guidelines of the Fellowship Program

An overview:

Dhaka Eye Care Hospital has a plan to start fellowship programs in the subspecialty of ophthalmology, such as: 

1. Anterior Segment / Intraocular lens microsurgery

2. Cornea

3. Glaucoma

4. Retina Vitreous

5. Orbit and Oculoplasty

6. Pediatric Ophthalmology and strabismus

7. Uvea

8. Comprehensive ophthalmology

9. Surgical Pediatric Retina Fellowship (RoP)

10. Medical Retina

But initially, DECH will start a fellowship program on the following subspecialty 

1. Refractive surgery 

2. Cataract 

Course Duration:

15 months (12 months at DECH and 3 month at Indian Hospital)

Eligibility:

1. Applicant must have completed a Postgraduate degree in Ophthalmology (DO/DCO/MS/FCPS) to apply for all fellowship programs

2. For Surgical Pediatric Retina Fellowship (RoP) - candidates must complete a long-term Fellowship in Retina – Vitreous.

3. The age limit for the applicant to apply for all the fellowships is up to 40 years

4. Only Local and international candidates can apply for long-term fellowships at Dhaka Eye Care Hospital

Guidelines to apply:

1. Applications must be submitted only through the online system available on the DECH website. 

2. The applicant has to work in the main branch of DECH and the Branch Eye Hospital of DECH. 

3. Applicant cannot change his/her fellowship preferences once the form is submitted.

4. Incomplete applications will be rejected.

5. Application processing fee of BDT. 5000/- to be paid online using credit / Debit/ Net banking facility. Payment through another mode (Cash/Cheque /DD) will not be accepted.

6. The submitted application will be further processed on receipt of the application fee.

7. The application fee will not be refunded for any reason / under any circumstances.

8. The applicant can reapply using their existing login name and password. The institution's discretion will determine whether to accept or reject the reapplication request.

Important Note:

1. All required documents must be enclosed as JPEG/PNG files, and the size of each file should be below 1 MB.

2. Please ensure that the following documents are ready before you start applying online;

a. MBBS Mark statement

b. MBBS Degree certificate

c. MBBS Registration certificate

d. Post Graduate’s certificate / provisional certificate

e. Post Graduate’s Mark statement (if available)

f. Long-Term Retina Fellowship Certificate (required for Surgical Pediatric ROP Fellowship)

g. Copy of the NID or Passport

3. A recent passport-size photo with an apron in JPEG/PNG format below 1 MB (3.5 X 4.5) should be uploaded.

4. Make sure the documents you upload are legible and straight

5. All mandatory fields (*) to be completed with valid information/data

6. It is mandatory to give two references, either from the HOD of your MBBS or ophthalmology degree, with their contact details.

7. While filling out the form, avoid using symbols and special characters like ', " & @ # etc.

8. Do not copy and paste content from other sources or formats; type the details directly into the form

9. The applicant can complete the form using the "save" function in several sessions. It cannot be edited after submission

Application process:

1. The application status and related communications will be sent to the applicant only through the Email ID as given in the application form

2. Once the application form is submitted, the applicant will receive an acknowledgement mail with a copy of the application (in PDF format)

3. The DECH authority reviews the application to check for the eligibility criteria and completion of information before processing it.

Selection Process:

1. Direct observation and interviews are mandatory as part of the selection process.

2. Entrance exams are applicable for some of the fellowship selections at DECH.

3. The respective HODs will inform the applicant of the exact dates and duration of the observation/interview/entrance exams.

4. After selection, if the candidate fails to report on the scheduled date after getting the consent, that application will be rejected.
